Hello, November!

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

We have sailed through Halloween and other fall-related events and activities, and now we settle into November, with shorter days and cooler/wetter weather ahead. Thank you to all caregivers for your continued support of our students; good connections with teachers, checking your child’s planner, looking at progress on Seesaw and reading with your child daily are all important ways to encourage positivity around learning.

This month we are beginning a new initiative at Bondar, called the Seven Sacred Teachings, which are indigenous teachings applicable to us all. Each month, we will focus on a new teaching, and students will have the opportunity to learn about the teaching in their classroom, to hear stories about the teaching, and at the end of each month, classroom teachers will choose a student to be recognized for either modelling the teaching or showing a deep understanding of it. The Sacred Teaching for the month of November is Courage.

We have lots coming up in the month of November, so I encourage you all to reference the calendar on our website to stay up to date. There are a few items that require extra information, so please read on to stay informed:

  1. Art Cards: Art cards by kids is also available to order until November 8th. Get Christmas cards, ornaments, puzzles and plaques all in your child’s personal artwork. Orders can be placed online here and will be sent home at the end of November.  
  2. Remembrance Day Assembly: Our Remembrance Day Assembly will be this Thursday, November 9th @ 11:30am. Parents and Caregivers are welcome to join (please arrive 5 to 10 minutes early). Divisions 1 and 2 have recorded the poem In Flanders Fields to share, and the Whistle Club has a presentation to make as well.
  3. Long Weekend: This Friday, November 10th is a Professional Development Day and so there is no school for students. Monday, November 13th is a day in lieu (for Remembrance Day) and there is not school for students on Monday either. Students will be back in session on Tuesday, November 14th.
  4. Diwali Assembly: We will have an assembly for Diwali on Wednesday November 15th at 9:15am. For more information, please click here.
  5. Purdy’s Fundraiser: The PAC’s annual Purdy’s fundraiser is back. This is a great opportunity to order all the chocolate you need for gift giving before Christmas! The website for ordering is up and running; please order here. Anyone can shop from this fundraiser. Please share the link with family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and on your personal social media. The last day to place orders is December 2 and orders will be ready to pick up at Bondar on December 14. 
  6. Christmas Market: The PAC is still looking for donations for this year’s Christmas Market. Gently used or new items like books, knick knacks, small toys, costume jewelry, puzzles, keychains, magnets and NEW ITEMS like earrings, lotions, bath products, gift bags, art supplies, gift tags and journals would be gladly accepted! Please drop off any donations at the office. The Christmas Market will take place on Friday, December 15th.
  7. Other Fundraisers: The PAC also have several other fundraisers on the go. Be sure to check these out on our Munchalunch page. Currently available for order are DIY 4” mini-Christmas Trees, November popcorn day, and December hot lunch (White Spot). Stay tuned for parent Bondar shirts…coming soon to Munchalunch.
