Into the Rhythm

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

We are into November now and I am not sure how the time continues to pass by so quickly. I suppose that that feeling must come with age, and also with raising small kids and working with your children every day at Bondar. It is a privilege to welcome your kids to school each day, to build relationships with them and to support them in their academic and social learning. I have really enjoyed seeing our relationships with you as parents continue to grow, and your presence in and around the school, whether it be at special events, at drop off or pick up, online checking in on Seesaw, or writing notes in your child’s planner, is strongly felt by us all.

We continue to focus on the Seven Sacred Teachings this school year, which are indigenous teachings that promote strong values and integrity in our community. Each month, we focus on a new teaching, and students will have the opportunity to learn about the teaching in their classroom, to hear stories about the teaching, and at the end of each month, classroom teachers will choose a student to be recognized for either modelling the teaching or showing a deep understanding of it. The Sacred Teaching for the month of November is Courage.

Our Indigenous Support Worker, Ms. Lisa, has also been bringing her knowledge and understanding of indigenous culture to her work with individual students and into classrooms. In the month of October, she did class presentations on the Sto:lo New Year, Autumn Transitions and Navajo Code Talkers. This month, she will be doing class presentations on indigenous board games. Thank you, Ms. Lisa, for engaging us in authentic indigenous experiences and for sharing her knowledge with us.

This month is a little bit quieter than the last, but there are still a few upcoming events that you can mark on your calendar. This coming Friday, we have the Rainy Run beginning at 2pm and to energize the students for the run, there is Hot Lunch. Next Friday, November 22nd, all parents are welcome to join in on the PAC Meeting and on Tuesday, November 26th we have Come Read With Me. The Bondar PAC Purdy’s Fundraiser is also back; orders must be placed by November 30th and will be ready for pick up on December 13th.
