Wonderful Winter

December 11, 2024

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We are on the verge of winter and the holiday season is just about upon us, which comes with much excitement, events and activities to take part in. This time of year is also when many of us are feeling run down and can catch the flu or other respiratory illnesses like Covid-19.

We have had a number of students come to school sick in the past few weeks. We understand that it can be difficult to navigate keeping kids home sick with responsibilities at work, but in order to prevent the spread of illness, it is very important that children stay home when they are sick. It is particularly important that children stay home if they have vomited or have had a fever within the previous 24 hours. You can help your family stay healthy by ensuring that everyone is getting enough sleep, by practicing good hand hygiene, by eating healthy foods and by engaging in physical activity every day. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school community healthy and safe!

Another thing that the upcoming winter season can bring us is inclement weather. You can view the Abby Schools Winter Weather District Procedures here. Schools throughout the Abbotsford School District will remain OPEN, except under extreme circumstances. Only cancellations, closures or delayed school openings will be announced. Any district-wide or partial-district closures will be decided and communicated by 6:30am.

Thank you so much to the PAC for another successful Christmas Market this year, an annual tradition at Bondar. Students were thrilled to visit the market to pick out Christmas presents for family members and friends, and maybe even an item for themselves😊 This is an opportunity for children to participate in the giving of the holiday season and to practice considering the wants of other. Thank you!

We have just under two weeks of school left and there are some exciting events coming up. This Friday, December 13th, we have our Jingle Bell Run beginning at 2pm out on the blacktop at the back of the school. Learning Updates will also go home on Friday, December 13th. On Wednesday, December 18th, we look forward to hosting our families for the Christmas Concert, with shows at 9am and 1pm, and on the last day of school, December 20th, all school community members are invited to join us for Photos with Santa in the Library and a Pancake Breakfast in the gym. The last day of school is also Pyjama Day. Between these events and special activities happening in each class, there will be lots of festive fun happening in the next week and a half.

We have had a positive and productive start to the school year and Winter Break is a chance to rest and recharge for more learning in Term Two. Have a safe, fun-filled, healthy holiday season and enjoy some time spent together with family and friends. Have a wonderful break, everyone!
