Human and Social Development
Our students will study personal and human social skills and as they relate to students' identity in the world - both as individuals and as members of their community. We are learning that personal and human social skills encompass the abilities students needs to thrive as individuals, to understand and care about themselves and others, and to find and achieve their purposes in the world.
Goals
- Improve student sense of well-being.
Sensory and Food Group
Our LSS Teacher Ms. Greenhalgh provides engaging programming for students who are exploring new sensory experiences and taking risks with touching/smelling/tasting new foods. The environment is supportive and caring, and supplements the work being done in the classroom by meeting student needs in another way.
Outdoor Learning
Our Nature Kindergarten/Grade 1 combined class takes learning outdoors everyday and incorporates these hands on experiences into learning in the classroom. With quick access to a forest and creek behind the school property, many teachers provide their students with the opportunity to connect with the land and to breathe in the benefits of taking learning outside. Movement, creativity and exploration are central to the outdoor learning experience, supporting the mental, physical and sensory well-being of our students.
