Intellectual Development

Our students will learn key academic skills - like reading, writing and math - to encompass the knowledge and processes associated with intellectual development. As learners and meaning-makers, students take subject-specific concepts and content and transform them into a new understanding.

Goals

  • Improve student success in literacy.
  • Improve student success in numeracy.

Faces on the Data Project

Bondar is taking part on the Faces on the Data Project this school year. The goal of this project is to support growth and learning, as well as to track progress that students are making in Literacy. Teachers, admin and School District Staff work together to come up with strategies to support developing learners, which in turn will benefit all students in the classroom.

Words Their Way

Teachers at Bondar use a number of School District Recommended resources to support Literacy Learning in their classrooms. Words Their Way is one of these programs. At the start of the year, students' understanding of individual letter sounds and letter sound combinations is assessed, and then students are able to move through the program at their own level. Each skill learned builds upon the previous skills, strengthening student Literacy Learning in the areas of both reading and writing.

Reading Assessments

As a skill central to accessing all learning, Reading is taught intentionally and assessed regularly to monitor progress. The newly implemented Acadience Early Literacy Screener for Kindergarten and Grade 1 is an added initiative to flag students who may require more support in their learning. This screener, along with the Kindergarten Literacy Assessment and PM Benchmarks ensure that we are checking in on student progress as the children grow and learn.
